The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, which were unveiled on September 7 and are being sold alongside the more affordable iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, are Apple’s new premium flagship smartphones.
The iPhone 14 Pro variants include many more features than the standard iPhone 14 models, including faster A16 processors, sharper displays, and advances in camera technology.
The flat edges, stainless steel enclosure, textured matte glass back, IP68 water resistance, and Ceramic Shield-protected display of the 6.1 and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro models are similar to those of the iPhone 13 Pro models. However, the camera bumps are larger to accommodate new lenses, and the display has also changed.

The TrueDepth camera system is now housed inside of what Apple refers to as the Dynamic Island, a pill-shaped recess at the front of the display that holds camera technology and may alter in size and shape based on what is displayed on the screen.
According to Apple, the Dynamic Island aims to blur the distinction between software and hardware. It may adjust in real time, displaying notifications, alerts, and activities in the spot where the notch once was.
Although there is still hardware there, the True Depth camera takes up less room, and the Dynamic Island uses the screen more effectively to blend it into the background. The Dynamic Island may display purchase confirmations with Face ID, directions with Maps, phone calls, music information, Live Activities like sports scores, timers, and more. It can also be accessed by tapping and holding the screen.
A first for an iPhone, the new Super Retina XDR display on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max supports an Always-On display thanks to enhanced ProMotion technology.

Deep purple, silver, gold, and space black are the available colours for the iPhone 14 Pro versions, with prices starting at $999. Pre-orders started on September 9 and the product was launched on September 16 after that.
A new 1Hz to 120Hz refresh rate and better power-efficient technologies enable the Always-On display. When the Always-On display is turned on, the background is darkened and the time, widgets, and Live Activities are always visible at a glance.
The Super Retina XDR display on the iPhone 14 Pro, which is comparable to the Pro Display XDR in terms of peak HDR brightness at up to 2000 nits and Always-On technology, offers higher peak HDR brightness. It has the highest smartphone outdoor peak brightness and, in bright sunlight, is twice as bright as the iPhone 13 Pro.
The iPhone 14 Pro versions include an improved A16 chip, which is the first time Apple has used distinct chips for the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Pro. The A16 is the first chip created using the new 4-nanometer manufacturing process, which improves speed and efficiency.
The A16 boasts an upgraded 16-core Neural Engine that executes 17 trillion operations per second, a 6-core CPU that is quicker, a 5-core GPU that is faster and has 50% higher memory bandwidth.

Apple included a 48-megapixel Wide camera with a quad-pixel sensor that adjusts to the image being shot, resulting in a 12-megapixel image with the same level of clarity as a 48-megapixel image. For even improved low-light performance, every four pixels in the majority of images are blended into one huge quad pixel.
A 2x Telephoto mode, which employs the centre 12 megapixels of the 48-megapixel lens to take full-resolution pictures without using a digital zoom, is also available. Additionally enhanced, this adds to the existing 3x zoom made possible by the specialised Telephoto lens.
The latest iPhones can take stunning, expert images since the iPhone 14 Pro models can shoot at the full 48MP with ProRAW. A new 12 megapixel Ultra Wide camera boasts bigger pixels for crisper shots with more information and a better macro mode, and second-generation sensor-shift optical image stabilisation eliminates tremor and blur.
The TrueDepth front-facing camera now supports autofocus and has an enhanced f/1.9 aperture for better low-light selfies and videos. An array of nine LEDs that alter their pattern according to the lens focal length has been added to the new Adaptive True Tone flash. Night mode, Smart HDR 4, Portrait Mode, and Photographic Styles are still accessible features.
The Photonic Engine in the iPhone 14 Pro models is powered by Apple’s A16 processor and enhances low-light performance across all of the lenses. With the Photonic Engine, the front-facing, wide, and telephoto TrueDepth cameras provide 2x improved low-light performance, while the ultra wide lens enables 3x better low-light performance. The Photonic Engine improves on Deep Fusion by adding amazing detail, maintaining fine textures, and delivering better colour.
There is an Action Mode for video that offers more effective image stabilisation and smooth-looking footage than ever. Even when video is recorded in the midst of an event, Action Mode can adapt to strong shakes, movements, and vibrations. The upgraded Cinematic Mode is now available in 4K at 30 fps and 4K at 24 fps.
The dual-core accelerometer in the iPhone 14 Pro versions can measure up to 256Gs. It also powers the Crash Detection feature, which can call emergency services if you’re in a catastrophic accident and are unable to reach your iPhone. In order to enable this feature, Apple also makes use of other sensors.
As a result, the barometer can detect variations in cabin pressure, the GPS can monitor changes in speed, and the microphone may pick up the sounds of automobile crashes.
Additionally, Apple updated the iPhone 14 with Emergency SOS via satellite, a feature that enables users to communicate in an emergency without WiFi or cellular service by connecting directly to satellites. In open areas with few trees, emergency SOS via satellite can be used to text emergency personnel.
It operates in the United States and Canada and is free for two years. Using Find My Friends and Family, satellite connectivity can also be used to communicate your whereabouts.
The new Qualcomm X65 modem is used in the iPhone 14 Pro variants, which allow 5G connectivity (sub-6GHz and mmWave in the US). Since carriers now use eSIM, American iPhone models do not come with physical SIM cards.
With the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, battery life has increased and now lasts an hour longer than the iPhone 13 Pro models. When watching videos, the iPhone 14 Pro can last up to 23 hours, while the Pro Max can last up to 29 hours.
Storage options for the iPhone 14 Pro versions include 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. Fast charging over Lightning is possible with a 20W or higher charger, while MagSafe charging up to 15W is still supported. Additionally, WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 are supported on the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max.
